Initial Considerations
If you need to move samples within a box, there are 2 methods that can be used to accomplish this, however the method you use will vary based on your specific use case.
How to swap locations using ‘Store Specimens’:

If the slot into which the sample needs to be transferred to is occupied by an incorrect sample, then that slot needs to be cleared. Or perhaps several samples are off by one and need to be shifted. If this is the case, you can use the container interface to move the sample locations. Example: These 3 samples in E5, E6, and E7 need to be moved to the left into slots E3, E4, and E5. Since the first specimen is located in E5, I cannot simply transfer them without vacating the position of the sample in that location first. Instructions: Navigate to the ‘Locations’ overview of the box from the left hand menu Select ‘Store Specimens’ to open the assign samples box. In the assign specimens box enter the sample labels to be transferred and precede each with the location into which they should be moved within parentheses and double quotation marks. Ensure the ‘Vacate Existing Specimens’ box is checked. The specimen labels will appear in yellow in the new locations so they can be easily visualized. Select ‘Store’ to the left of the assign specimens box Select ‘Yes’ when prompted to move the previously stored samples. The new locations can be seen in the ‘locations’ view of the box.

Example: shift the samples in E,2 to E,5 to the left into spaces E,1 to E,4. Navigate to the specimen view and select the samples to be moved. Choose ‘Transfer’ from the Actions button. Choose the current box from the New Loction and select the location for the first sample to be placed. In this case the sample in E,2 will move to E, 1. You can manually view the box using the magnifying glass or just type in the cell location E, 1. Choose ‘Copy first to all’ icon next to the New Location header. The other locations will automatically fill in the next available spots, or you can manually enter them if they are not in order. Click ‘Done’. Check the new sample locations in the ‘locations’ view of the box.
