Per University Policy, Real data collection is NOT permitted while your project is Development mode. By default, your project is in ‘development’ mode upon project creation.

  • Real data collection may not begin until your ‘Production request’ has been approved by a REDCap AdministratorBy default when a new project is created, the project is in ‘Development mode’ more info: Project Lifecycle

Generalized steps to get started with your build:

  1. REDCap 101:

    1. Review REDCap 101 guides

    2. After your project has been approved, it is in Development mode. In Development mode you will build & test your project BEFORE real data collection may begin.

  2. Consider Record Keeping:

    1. Record Labels, Auto-Numbering & Unique Identifiers

  3. Consider if your project will utilize surveys:

    1. Will you utilize a public survey link or build a private survey?

    2. Survey Setup, Settings & Distribution

  4. Build your Instruments

    1. Field Types & Suggested Coding

    2. How to build an instrument

  5. Test your project. :

    1. It is critical to

    TEST
    1. test your project in Development Mode to ensure your

    surveys distributed as expected and project workflows/alerts function prior to production
    1. survey(s) distribute as expected before sending to real participants in production mode

    2. How to test Private Survey

    3. How to test a Data Entry form

  6. Submit Production Request, in order to begin real data collection

    1. How to submit request your project for Productionbe moved to Production by a RedCap Admin

    2. Only after your Production Request has been approved by a REDCap Administrator may real data collection begin

Is a longitudinal project right for you?
