Initial Considerations

There may come a time during your project when you no longer potential participants to respond to a survey. You can take a survey offline (i.e. de-activate the survey) which will cause any links (emailed, sent via SMS, public survey link) to result in a webpage that states "this survey is no longer active." You can re-activate the survey at any time and the existing links will result in the webpage with the survey content.

The Process

To take a survey offline, do the following:

  1. Click on "Online Designer" (Circled in red below)

  2. Click the button next to your survey, "Survey Settings" (Circled in Red below)

  3. Change "Survey Status" drop down to Survey Offline (Circled in red below)

  4. Scroll to the bottom and save changes
*Note - on this page you can also set an expiration date to automatically change a survey status to Offline on a specific date.

Additional Considerations:

Often, REDCap users utilize a REDCap project to post a public survey link of a survey and gain responses. If you wish to change the survey that is associated with that survey link, you'll need to de-activate the existing survey (the 1st survey on your designer list), then create a new survey and move it to the 1st position.
