Printer Setup Checklist

  1. Verify and make note of the printer make, model, and DPI

  2. Ensure your printer has all the necessary parts such as the ribbon, label roll etc.

    1. Connect your printer using USB cable in order to run a test print and to configure the printer for network connectivity if the manufacturer requires a desktop computer application to configure it.

    2. Once the printer is connected via USB cable, run a test print (could be just a blank label) to make sure the printer is able to process print commands (if the printer is not responding or behaving erratically, you will need to coordinate with your IT department to troubleshoot the issue)

  3. Please follow the below process to obtain the IP address (if you do not already have it handy) and run a test print to ensure printer connectivity and operational status:

    1. Connect your printer to your local area network (LAN) via an Ethernet cable, work with your local IT network support to ensure your printer is assigned a static IP address. Verify the IP is set up with the manufacturer instructions and desktop application as needed.

    2. Make note of your printer’s IP address (if you are unable to find the IP address, you might need to communicate with your IT department who may have helped set the static address.)

    3. Once ethernet connection is successfully established and assigned, perform a basic network connectivity test to ensure the printer is available on the said IP address. Please contact your IT department if you are unable to verify the printer’s availability on the said IP address to “ping” the printer on your network.

    4. Once you have verified the printer is functioning as expected, disconnect the USB cable from the printer to verify printing via the Ethernet cable over the network is possible. You may need to set up a new printer connection to do this on your computer.

  4. Provide the printer make, model, DPI, and the IP address to BMIC by raising a request for ‘Printer Support’ via the BMIC Helpdesk here - (OS) Printer Support along with an acknowledgement that this checklist has been completed
