TRINETX: BASIC FUNCTIONALITY
The TriNetX platform allows you to query various forms of data either within the University of Utah population or across multiple healthcare organizations. Types of data which can be queried includes:

  • demographics

  • diagnosis

  • procedures

  • medication

  • labs

  • vitals

  • Cancer-tumor site, histology/behavior, stage, cancer specific information etc.

  • Genomic-Genes and individual variants (SNPs)

All data is curated and mapped to industry standard terminology.

PROTECTED HEALTHCARE INFORMATION (PHI)
PHI remains securely behind the HCOs firewall

NAVIGATION BAR
After you have successfully logged into TriNetX and created a study (to learn more refer to the article: TriNetX Query Builder) you will see the navigation bar on the left side of the screen and a camera icon on the upper right.

CAMERA ICON
Select the camera icon to download an image of what is shown on the screen. Graphics can be exported directly from the application. You can download an image of the query, the Explore Cohort results, the Rate of Arrival results, the Criteria Analysis funnel, etc. These images can be included in a presentation or documentation, sent in an email, and used for bid proposals and discussion.

REVIEW OF THE NAVIGATION BAR

The navigation bar acts as a guide and lists all the actions you can access as you work in the TriNetX platform. The navigation bar defaults to the query builder.  The most commonly use functions of the Navigation bar are discussed below

  • QUERY BUILDER TAB
The query builder platform is designed to represent both the MUST have or inclusion criteria, and the CANNOT have, or exclusion criteria. This is like that of a study protocol.

QUERY CARD
When you count patients in the Query Builder tab, a new query card is saved. Queries are stored on the right side of the screen.

  • HEALTH CARE ORGANIZATION (HCO) TAB
A CSV file can be downloaded on this tab using the download button on the upper rightThe View button opens a detailed view of the cohort.

  • ANALYZE CRITERIA TAB
Analyze criteria would display how the selected query criteria effects the size of the cohort yielded. It can be used to help optimize protocol criteria and identify potential bottlenecks in the patient screening and enrollment. To see results, select New Analysis.

PATIENT FUNNEL
Once analysis is complete in the  Analyze Criteria tab, Patient Funnel will be displayed. The patient funnel is a helpful function that can be used to measure the impact of a requirement in a clinical trial. By hiding a criterion, you apply a quantitative measure of the impact to the cohort. This may be an important  information to present when having discussions with colleagues, or with a Clinical Research Organization (CRO).

  • RATE OF ARRIVAL
When you run the analysis, it displays an estimate of the new patients who match the query criteria, and how frequently they are seen at the healthcare organization. The list shows the new unique patients at each HCO that are eligible for the study.

  • ANALYTICS
TriNetX platform hosts an array of analytical tools.

  • STUDY MANAGEMENT
The Study Management component conveniently lists all your study's property. This page can be edited.

  • Team
The Team tab allows you to share your study with colleagues who have access to the TriNetX platform.

  • DOCUMENTS
This is the location where you can store specific study document, for example, protocols or summaries. It is helpful to store any document related to your study in one central location for others to access. This is especially important when requesting design assistance.

  • HELP
If you have questions or need help navigating the TriNetX platform, please contact us at helpdesk@ccts.utah.edu Additional resources can be found on the TriNetX platform. Simply select "?" icon on the upper right.
