What is N3C?

The N3C is a partnership among the NCATS-supported Clinical and Translational Science Awards (CTSA) Program hubs, the National Center for Data to Health (CD2H) , and NIGMS-supported Institutional Development Award Networks for Clinical and Translational Research (IDeA-CTR), with overall stewardship by NCATS. Collaborators will contribute and use COVID‑19 clinical data to answer critical research questions to address the pandemic.

N3C Data partners

N3C Data partners include:

  • National Center for Data to Health

  • The ACT Network

  • PCORnet

  • OHDSI

  • TriNetX

N3C Data Enclave

The N3C Data Enclave is a secure platform through which harmonized clinical data provided by our contributing members are stored. The Enclave includes demographic and clinical characteristics of patients who have been tested for or diagnosed with COVID-19, and further information about the strategies and outcomes of treatments for those suspected or confirmed to have the virus. Additional data from individuals infected with pathogens such as SARS 1, MERS, and H1N1 are also included to support comparative studies

This is the first nationwide patient level dataset in a certified secured environment. EHR data is harmonized into a single model via OMOP, ACT/i2b2, PCORnet, or TriNetX.

The enclave includes following data:

• Observations

• Specimens

• Visits

• Procedures

• Drugs

• Devices

• Conditions

• Measurements

• Location

• Provider

Collaborative Research

All researchers looking to interact with N3C data will do so by collaborating with other investigations. Researchers can either start a new project or join an existing one.
